General Information
Emergency Medicine is a medical specialty focused on providing rapid, accurate, effective, and systematic medical intervention for sudden illnesses and injuries. It encompasses a wide range of services, from pre-hospital emergency care to emergency department management, disaster and mass casualty planning, and critical patient care. Interdisciplinary collaboration, continuously updated protocols, and rapid decision-making are key characteristics of emergency medicine. It is a dynamic field that evolves with ongoing advancements in knowledge and technology.
Educational Activities
Our Department of Emergency Medicine includes 1 Professor and 4 Associate Professors, delivering a comprehensive program that integrates both theoretical and practical training for undergraduate medical students and residents.
At the undergraduate level, students are taught the fundamental principles of emergency care, triage practices, basic and advanced life support, trauma management, and patient safety through both theoretical and hands-on courses. During emergency department internships, students gain clinical experience by evaluating real patients.
The residency program is also structured around a comprehensive curriculum combining theory and practice. Throughout their training, residents gain experience in trauma, cardiac emergencies, respiratory and metabolic emergencies, toxicology, pediatric emergencies, and intensive care. The program is supported by case-based discussions, simulation exercises, workshops, and certified training courses. Additionally, our residents actively participate in national and international congresses and contribute to scientific research.
Service Areas
Our Emergency Department operates 24/7, providing uninterrupted care. The team ensures patient prioritization through rapid triage and manages diagnosis, treatment, and referral processes using a multidisciplinary approach. They also play active roles in emergency department organization, team management, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives. With experienced faculty and clinical teams, we aim to deliver fast, safe, and high-quality healthcare services.
Research and Scientific Activities
Emergency Medicine is not only a practice-based discipline but also a rapidly growing academic research field. Our research topics include trauma management, resuscitation, toxicology, critical care, patient safety, emergency department operations, and healthcare quality. Faculty members, specialists, research assistants, and students are actively involved in scientific production through national and international projects, presentations, and publications. These activities contribute to both the advancement of emergency healthcare services and the development of medical science.
