General Information

A Family Physician is a specialist trained in accordance with the principles of the discipline. They provide comprehensive and continuous healthcare to individuals regardless of age, gender, or disease. Family physicians adopt a biopsychosocial approach to patient care and are committed to developing their knowledge, skills, and values to deliver effective and reliable healthcare. Prioritizing preventive medicine, they work to raise patients’ awareness of health and well-being.

Educational Activities

Our scientific goals are to equip both students and research assistants with the ability to apply evidence-based diagnostic and treatment methods for primary care patients, to develop awareness and skills in preventive medicine, and to plan and conduct scientific studies aimed at improving primary healthcare services. The Department of Family Medicine at Aksaray University Faculty of Medicine was established in 2018. We provide theoretical and practical courses to first- and sixth-year medical students, including fieldwork through visits to Family Health Centers (FHCs) for sixth-year students. Our department began residency training in 2024. The training program consists of 18 months of rotations and 18 months of in-department education and practice. Mandatory rotations include 4 months in internal medicine, 4 months in pediatrics, 3 months in obstetrics and gynecology, 2 months in psychiatry, and 1 month each in cardiology, pulmonology, emergency medicine, and dermatology. Additionally, residents complete a 1-month elective rotation in either neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, or general surgery. The program also includes orientation training, journal clubs, and seminar sessions in accordance with the academic calendar.

Service Areas

Our department provides services through three outpatient clinics located on the ground floor of Block B in our university hospital.

Research and Scientific Activities

In line with our scientific objectives, we conduct studies aimed at improving primary healthcare services. Research topics include preventive medicine and diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Students and research assistants actively participate in these processes.
