General Information
Our department provides diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for all conditions that lead to functional impairments, primarily those affecting the musculoskeletal system. These services are delivered through a scientific, holistic, and patient-centered approach. Our goal is to maximize patients’ quality of life, offer a strong academic and clinical training environment for medical students and residents, and contribute to our university and country through scientific research and innovation.
Academic Staff and Education
Our department includes three faculty members—one Professor (Prof. Dr. Adem YILDIRIM, Head of Department), two Associate Professors (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet KARAKOYUN and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Erkut ÖNDER, Rheumatology)—and five research assistants. Affiliated with Aksaray Training and Research Hospital, our department delivers theoretical courses at the Faculty of Medicine Education Building located within the hospital campus. Practical training is conducted in our outpatient clinics on the ground floor of Block B, inpatient ward on the 6th floor, and the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation unit on floor -1. The residency training program includes seminars, literature presentations, case discussions, and interactive educational videos, held every Wednesday from 11:00 to 12:30 with active participation from our academic staff. Additionally, our training clinic operates daily. On Mondays from 13:30 to 16:00, practical training in physical therapy and rehabilitation is conducted under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet KARAKOYUN. On Tuesdays, from 13:30 to 16:00, applied training focused on rheumatology and ultrasonography is led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Erkut ÖNDER.
Clinical Services
Our faculty members and residents work in collaboration with experienced specialists in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Rheumatology, serving in five physical therapy outpatient clinics, two rheumatology clinics, and one medical board clinic. In addition to outpatient care, our 65-bed inpatient ward provides hospitalization services. Our physical therapy unit, equipped with modern technologies, delivers outpatient treatment and rehabilitation to approximately 200–250 patients daily.
