General Introduction and Purpose of Establishment
Our department provides public health education for undergraduate medical students. It is staffed by one Associate Professor who holds a specialization in Public Health.
Our goal is to train physicians who understand the needs and expectations of society and possess the skills to observe, identify, measure, and solve public health problems. We aim to conduct research to define and address community health issues and to manage educational and research activities within the university’s designated training region.
Educational and Research Activities
Public Health theoretical courses begin in Year 1 and continue through Year 3. The academic staff also plays a mentoring role during students’ scientific research projects. Sixth-year students complete a two-month Family Medicine–Public Health internship, with one month spent in our department in groups of 15–20 students.
Additionally, students participate in fieldwork through a protocol between our university and the Aksaray Provincial Health Directorate. This includes practical training at the Aksaray Central Community Health Center (CHC) and Dr. Abdulkadir Baba Healthy Life Center (HLC).
During the internship, sixth-year students gain knowledge, experience, and skills through theoretical public health courses, academic epidemiological practices and presentations, field applications, and professional responsibilities.
Scientific Studies and Academic Activities
Our department conducts collaborative studies across various disciplines in the following areas: reproductive health, school health, occupational health, health education, environmental health, health management, epidemiology, maternal and child health, biostatistics, community nutrition, non-communicable diseases, communicable diseases, health promotion, and evidence-based medicine.
